It's been a long time since I've updated this blog, so it seems fitting to start my first post of the new semester with a summary of the art I've work on over the summer months away from university. Comparing this summer's work to the work I produced last year, I think I can see two separate style between which I alternate; that of traditional pencil illustration (sometimes digitally coloured and textured) and that of a more painterly, line-less style. I believe that since last year, my handling of shape and depth has improved, as well as the precision of my line art. However, points I have identified to improve include working out more refined colour palettes and working on my composition, as well as gaining a better understanding of lighting.

3D Environments
Below is featured the 3D environment model on which I have been workling lately. The first video shows the model with all textures and lights, the second one without.
Dance animation
Below is the final dance animation I had to complete for the Motion Studies Module. Whilst it was a little frustrating and difficult to work with the limited model we were provided, I am still pleased with what I managed to create in the end. The second video is a showreel of all of my 2d motion studies work, and my full dance animation.

Dance Life Drawings
A collection of life drawings done during a dance rehearsal. It was extremely interesting to have to draw so quickly and to reference poses as they moved and changed constantly.

Background Layouts
After being set the background and layout project today, I thought I would introduce myself to the project by drawing some layouts from Disney animation. The following layouts are from shots from Sleeping Beauty and The Sorcerer's Apprentice.

Sneak Cycle
This time using cut-out animation; a sneaking walk. Hopefully with more practise I can get this style to look less jerky.

2D Animation
Some more 2D motion studies animations - I'm very much enjoying the organic feel of working with the light box, and look forward to trying out some more creative personal projects ~

This is for my current project; to produce a 10 second sting for the annual E4 competition. Here is the storyboard for my idea - which will hopefully turn into stop motion!

Sketches and Dragons
A compilation of many of the sketches down in my book this semester - also a couple of dragons for your enjoyment as well. I'm enjoying the more illustration style I used for the second creature, as I found it very useful for getting in the anatomical details...
