More work in mudbox. I'm feeling more comfortable with the sculpting tools now, though modelling the hands and feet was very hard and I think they look a little crude still...never mind, I hope these things with improve with practice.

Animatic Project

The following video is the finished product of the animatic project from Autumn term. We were given a series of prompts to use, a list of common sayings, and a genre of film. With these in mind, we had to create a feature - film, tv program or even a game - and produce an animatic based on a small section of our idea.

I chose the saying; 'Gone to the dogs' and the genre film-noir. With these prompts, I created a dark but comedic TV program focussing on anthropomorphic dogs as characters. This program would be aimed at older teens and was in a 2D format. Below is also a little of the concept art for the animatic.

Winter Artwork

More personal work completed around Christmas up 'til now. I feel like my pencil sketches and drawing and understanding of anatomy are gradually improving.

3D Modelling in Maya and Mudbox

I recently started teaching myself how to create high detail 3D models using autodesk software. The following images show my first completed project. The base mesh had some rather dodgy geometry which and area I'll definitely have to improve on with practise, but I am pleased with the organic feel that mudbox created.

Pre-production Designs

Here is a compilation of all of the work I have produced for the pre-production module of my uni course. I was given a series of cards from which to base my project at random. I ended up with 'countryside program', 'meat products', 'winter wonderland' and the surrealist artist Lars Henkel. It was quite a challenge to produce a feature that stuck to all of these criteria, but in the end I came up with an idea with which I was satisfied - a short film about two children making a documentary in the countryside near their city home, who encounter a monstrous creature with sinister ties to the city's famous meat factory...

Autumn Artwork

More traditional and digital artwork from September onwards. Everything shown here is not course related, but for personal development. Images 2, 3 and 4 are fan-art and character are not mine.

'Funny in 15' and '11 Second Project'

These are a few pieces of work from the first module at uni this year. The first was an internal assignment, an involved making a comedic short in a group. I oversaw the character design, storyboarding, asset production and lip-syncing. Overall, I am pleased with the end result but feel that the timing could have been improved and the rigs made with more moving parts.

The second project was a solo assignment for the website and competition, the 11 Second Club. We were given a sound file to animate too in whatever medium we wanted. I chose 2D and used TVPaint, as this was a software I had not used before and wanted to learn. I feel, looking back, that I could have worked some more on the conservation of form, and that I could also have made the movements of the passive character a little more subtle.
